MITSUBISHI PURIFIER OVERHAULING (BOWL CLEANING)– COMPLETE STEP BY STEP GUIDE PART 1.

Purifiers are used to separate sludge and water from the oil. There are mainly 3 makers in purifier industry for shipping, which are ALFA, MITSUSI SELFJECTOR, WESTFALIA. In this blogpost I will explain the step by step procedure for overhauling of MITSUBISHI PURIFIER in 3 parts. In the 1stpart I will explain about the dismantling of bowl assembly, in the 2nd part the checks to be carried out on purifier and in the final part assembling back of the purifier.

Things to do before overhauling

1. Isolate the motor by turning of the power and locking the breaker from accidental starting.

2. Close the steam inlet and outlet to the heater.

3. Close the inlet and outlet valve of the oil supply to the purifier.

4. Close the water supply.

Sludge cover disassembling

1. Remove the plug mounted in front of the bracket to drain the oil inside the piping.

2. Loosen the cap nut top and bottom of sealing water tube.

3. Remove the cap nuts of the inlet and outlet oil pipe connection using hook spanner.

4. Make sure not lose the flow rate regulator orifice.

5. Remove the cover nut with a spanner.

6. Loosen the nut fixing the inlet pipe with a spanner.

7. Loosen the socket set screw using an allen key. Don’t forget to remove this as without this the inlet pipe will get damaged.

8. Hit the top of the inlet pipe lightly with a plastic hammer to detach the appressed portion to the light liquid impeller.

9. Remove the socket cap screws which are fixing the frame and sludge cover.

10. Fit the jack on top part of the upper hood and screw the handle.

11. Lift up the sludge cover.

Dismantling of bowl assembly

Removing gravity disc

Note – All nuts are loosened in anti clock wise direction.

1. Mount the disc nut handle by hand and make sure it does not go up and strike it with a hammer to counter clockwise.

2. Remove the heavy liquid chamber, impeller, packing and gravity disc.

3. Mount the light liquid chamber disc nut and strike the hammer to remove it.

4. Pull out the impeller and inlet pipe.

How to pull out the bowl assembly.

Usually the dismantling tool is mounted to a platform in purifier room, so that we can place the bowl assembly and for ease of removing bowl disc.

1. First we should detach the vertical shaft from the bowl by removing the cap nut. Loosen the cap nut using the cap nut spanner.

How to use cap nut spanner – insert the cap nut spanner inside the bowl, align the capnut spanner above the cap nut. The cap nut spanner consist of a threaded rod which can be threaded inside the cap nut. So thread the cap nut at the head of cap nut and tighten it. Next turn the handle of the spanner and draw it up. The bowl can be removed with the cap nut mounted.

2. Mount the jack to threaded part of the distributor.

3. Keep on tightening until the bowl is slightly raised.

Note – Don’t strike top of the jack.

4. To further raise the bowl slightly hit hammer at the handle of the jack.

5. Using a chain block gradually lift the bowl assembly and keep it above the jack.5. Using a chain block gradually lift the bowl assembly and keep it above the jack.

Disassembling of bowl nut

For removing the bowl nut easily the disc stacks should be compressed. As the disc stacks  are getting compressed there wont be upward force exerted on the bowl hood. So the steps are simple here.

1. There is a special tool called disc clamp plate used to compress the disc stacks. Screw down the bolt of disc clamp plate completely by hand in the distributor.

2. There will be a small hole in the disc clamp plate through which we can see whether the height of top disc is matched with rib of distributor, so adjust direction of peephole of the disc clamp plate so as to see the rib of the distributor.

3. Using a spanner and hammer tighten the nut until the rib of the distributor is matching with the top disc.

4. Mount the bowl nut handle on the bowl nut and secure it properly so that it wont get lifted while striking with hammer. If the bowl nut is not rotating recheck that the rib of distributor is properly aligned.

5. After removing the bowl nut remove the disc clamp plate and place protection plate on the top of distributor.

6. Put the jack on the bowl hood, and fix the disc nut above it. Screw/turn the push bolt and the bowl hood will lift up.

7. Lift up the bowl hood by chain block.

Dismantling main cylinder.

1. Place the protective plate in the cap nut installing portion of the bowl body and fix the jack on the main cylinder with socket cap screw.

2. Turn the jack handle to lift up the main cylinder. Make sure that there is no inclination between the bowl cylinder and bowl body. If the handle become hard while turning then slightly strike hammer at the top of the push bolt.

Removing pilot valve.

1. Pilot valve nut is removed using hexagonal rod spanner.Properly secure the valve nut using the hexagonal spanner as it can damage the nut.

2. Thread the dismantling bolt into the pilot valve and turn down the nut to withdraw the pilot valve.

This how purifier overhauled.
