SERVICE OR DECK AIR COMPRESSOR onboard ship
Deck air or Service air compressor onboard ship is used to give 7 bar pressure for the pneumatic tools and other machinery. This blog mainly focus on the working of service air compressor onboard.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
Working of deck at compressor or service air compressor is as follows:
The fresh air supplied by cooling air ventilator is filtered through the intake filter. After the intake filter the air flows over to the intake regulator and into the compressor stage, where it is compressed and coolant liquid is injected to the final stage. The compressed air is separated from the coolant liquid in the coolant pressure tank. Remaining coolant is removed using the fine precipitator. The compressor air then flows to the minimum pressure valve and return valve into the compressor aftercooler and cooled down , then the cooled compressed air is ready to leave for service. Coolant liquid which is separated from the compressed air in the coolant liquid pressure tank and the fine precipitator, flows to the coolant liquid cooler. The coolant liquid temperature regulator adds the cooled coolant liquid to the hot coolant liquid via the coolant liquid cooler by-pass in accordance with the temperature set point. In the final stage the coolant liquid cooler is filtered through the liquid filter and injected back into the compressor stage.

Minimum pressure and non return valve – this valve is suited after the fine precipitator and only opens if the system pressure is more than 5 bar. After switching of the minimum pressure and non-return valve prevents the compressed air from flowling back out of the network.How to check the coolant liquid level of service air compressor. Switch of the screw compressor and place a lock so as to prevent accidental starting.Open and remove the sound insulation cover.Check the inspection glass to make sure it is completely covered in liquid. If the full hight is not covered then top up with coolant liquid.Maintenance carried out service air compressor. For every 2000 running hour replace the intake filter, coolant liquid filter and fine precipitator. Along with this renew the oil.
